Asylum
Those who have suffered violence or persecution in their home country because of race, religion, nationality, or political beliefs have the right to apply for asylum in the United States. If asylum is granted, you will be able to stay in the U.S. for an indefinite period and later apply for a permanent visa for yourself and your family members. Victims of human trafficking and domestic violence who are in the United States may also be eligible for visas under the provisions of the Victims of Trafficking and Violence Protection Act (VTVPA).
